Modern with a Twist
"I love Los Angeles — once you get to know it, it's got these amazing treasures and poetic corners," says designer Peter Dunham, who might also have been talking about this L.A. dining room, where he's fashioned a sprawling yet cozy corner. He brightened the custom banquette with six pillows made from a vintage suzani from Design Utopia. Two small dining tables yield more flexibility than one big one; he adapted their design from a Jacques Adnet side table. Dunham's signature How to Marry a Millionaire chairs.

An Eclectic Living Room
If decorating were music, Dunham says, the living room would be "like the eclectic mix at the Hôtel Costes in Paris, where there's jazz, Gypsy guitar, Bollywood tunes, Senegalese pop." A Calder tapestry hangs above a Nancy Corzine sofa accented with Fig Leaf pillows by Peter Dunham Textiles and an embroidered Moroccan pillow. Copper lamp from Blackman Cruz.

Classic, Yet Modern
Dunham chose Nanna Ditzel's egg chair — a classic of modern design — in part because "wicker is the most poetic material for me." Slipper chairs by Dunham. Wall color is Benjamin Moore's Ivory Tusk.

An Artistic Side
To add to the living room art, Dunham hung a poster he got for free — a photograph of the sea by Felix Gonzales-Torres — at a show of the artist's work in New York. On the 18th-century Spanish table, a lamp by Pat McGann. Rush stools from Hollywood at Home.

Beach Boy Bedroom
The master bedroom's bed cover and pair of pillows are Dunham's Samarkand. Green lamps and bedside tables — Japanese Tansu cabinets — are from Hollywood at Home. The 1970s rocking chair is by Jocko Johnson. "He was part of this whole culture of California craftsmen who handmade these one-off pieces — and I wanted something cool that reminded me of the Beach Boys," Dunham says. Grasscloth wallpaper from Kneedler-Fauchere gives the room depth and richness. The masks on the wall are African.

An Unexpected Bathroom
With the simple addition of an antique grate, Dunham made a mundane fireplace special. The photo, by Miguel Flores-Vianna, is from Nathan Turner. The Chinese tabouret and Caucasian carpet ottoman are from Hollywood at Home.

A Small but Luxurious Bedroom
To make it feel like a luxurious box, Dunham upholstered the walls of the tiny guest room in his Mattress Ticking. His Kashmir linen covers a vintage iron bed. Dunham "couldn't resist filling that big dead space above the headboard" with a 1960s map of North Africa found at the Rose Bowl flea market.
